We’re Alex & Matthew - The brothers building Seeing Systems.

TL;DR

We're building inexpensive, autonomous strike drones designed to stay operationally relevant as warfare evolves. By combining true hardware modularity with an agentic control system that lowers cognitive load on operators, we enable faster upgrades, broader adoption, and more than 2x reduction in lifecycle cost.

Our customers and partners include the UK Royal Marine Commandos, several other units in the UK, and 4 other NATO forces, and we are currently shipping prototypes to Ukraine for iterative feedback.

Problem

Military forces face two linked challenges:

1. Platform Obsolescence: Fixed drones require replacement or major rebuilds whenever missions or threats evolve, driving high costs and slowing operational adaptation.
2. The One Pilot Problem: One person can only control one drone at once, requiring full attention.

Countless stories can be found of western drone systems becoming obsolete, needing to be shelved and eventually replaced.

Solution

We build autonomous, modular drones that solve both problems at once:

• Modular hardware: Swappable payloads, sensors, compute, and comms let one platform support strike, ISR, or swarm missions. Upgradable and effective year after year.
• Agentic autonomy: Automates tasks like navigation and coordination, so operators with no prior training can use systems to their full effectiveness.

How do we know? Well, Forward Deployed Engineers. Giving each unit we work with a point of contact, we take feedback and integrate them into our system in a matter of hours. A close collaboration with the UK Royal Marines Commandos is actually what led to the development of this system.

Matthew Le Maitre - Co-Founder, Software

Former Jane Street Software Engineer and top-ranked CS graduate from the University of Cambridge. Matthew’s path started at the Mobile Robotics Lab at Cambridge, where he worked on autonomous systems and context-aware drones. He now leads the software side of Seeing Systems.

Alex Le Maitre - Co-Founder, Hardware

Alex has been obsessed with unmanned systems since childhood and is largely self-taught in embedded electronics, firmware, and PCB design. He has previously designed Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) training and diagnostic hardware for military users, alongside projects with national-security implications. Originally from the island of Guernsey, Alex now leads hardware development with a focus on building robust systems that help keep our people safe.
